The holidays can be a mine field if you’re trying to live a healthy lifestyle. Are you one of those people who rationalizes like eating a lot of foods around the holidays? And you make excuses like, “Well, it’s the holidays!” or “It’s that time of the year!” It only happens once a year!” By watching this video in its entirety, I will show you what triggers are adding to your weight gain. I’m also going to give you one of my favorite recipes. It’s called superfood stuffing. Growing up in Michigan, I would often eat stuffing that was loaded with gluten and all this artificial stuff. This stuffing is straight from Mother Nature herself and is one of my favorite things to make. Now, you may be thinking, how can I help you lose weight if I’ve never been overweight myself? Well, I don’t know if you’ve seen this my friend, but when we started Fitlife 5 1/2 years ago, I was roughly 40 pounds heavier than I am today. And I know, when I looked in the mirror, I didn’t like what I saw. I didn’t have the confidence. Growing up in Michigan, you know the Philly cheese steak, the chicken nuggets, the pizza, comfort food fries, you name it, every weekend, I was in self-sabotage mode. And the holidays were even worse. The truth is that the average person only gains about three-and-a-half pounds per thanksgiving every single year, right? Well, the good news is, there are certain triggers that are associated with those lbs. Number one, stress. As adults, in the holidays we tend to be associated with a lot of stress which leads to, guess what, emotional eating, erratic emotions stress, financial stress, I gotta buy these gifts, do this, the holidays, the family’s here, the in-laws, all these things that adds up and it contributes to those pounds. Number two is broken routines, right? We’re traveling. We take time off. We’ve got stuff to do for the kids. We’re visiting way more opportunities in the airport to eat all that nasty junk food that you normally wouldn’t touch. Next up is social pressure. Well you’re out with your co-workers, right? Normal holiday party and John, who is the vice president of marketing, You know he’s drinking his Bourbon and he’s got his piece of pie. He’s doing it so why can’t I do it, right? And it just adds up over and over. These things hit you and you don’t need to beat yourself up about it. But it’s time to wake up It’s time say hello to the peer pressure. Notice it, and then move on from it. Wish it goodbye. So here’s 7 quick and easy food swaps to make over the holidays to help you stick to your goals and walk out the holidays better than you were before. That’s my goal for you. And if that’s your goal as well, give this video a big thumbs up. Number one, instead of vegetable oil, use healthy fats like coconut oil, grass-fed butter, olive oil, there’s a lot of alternatives right? Studies have actually found that people who prioritize healthy fats during the holidays experience less weight gain, lower body fat percentage and fewer negative emotions. Number two, instead of candied yams and snacks, try roasted sweet potatoes. Candied yams pack about 215 calories in a half a cup and they’re full of sugar. Number three, instead of chips and crackers with dip, try raw veggies, really easy. Instead of guacamole in the chips, ask for veggies and dip it in the gloc. Most restaurants will do that. This will help you feel lighter. It will give you more energy. And you won’t have that crash afterwards from all the sugar from the refined carbs. Number four, instead of eggnog, drink apple cider or homemade raw cacao hot chocolate. We made a video on this in the past. Five, instead of potatoes, try mashed cauliflower. Don’t judge it ’till you try it. Six, instead of cranberry sauce, make cranberry relish. Cranberries are just so good. They’re impressively high anti-inflammatories and antioxidants and you can maximize the health benefits without adding all those unnecessary sugars of calories. Number 7, instead of store-bought stuffing, make raw superfood stuffing. Your guests that you had over the house that tried this raw superfood stuffing, they’re going to love it. Not only are they gonna love the taste, but they’re gonna love the way that they feel. They may even give you a big awkward hug after having your raw superfood stuffing. I know that’s what happens in my house. So, here’s the ingredients: 3/4 cups of celery, finely chopped 1 apple, finely chopped, 3 tablespoons of olive oil 1/4 cup of raisins 2/3 of cloves of garlic, finely chopped 1 cup of chopped pecans and 2 teaspoons of thyme, sage, rosemary and parsley 1/4 cup of goji berries 1 teaspoon of maca powder 1 cup of white mushrooms, chopped up 2 tablespoons of tamari soy sauce half a cup of red onion, chop it up and sea salt and pepper to taste. Directions, now this is really complex, okay? I want you to pay very close attention. I just want you to add all the ingredients in a bowl, mix it up, put some love into it, that final ingredient, and then eat it. And if you’re feeling stressed about the holidays, you’re going to absolutely love this superfood stuffing.
