Mucuna Pruriens Review and Experience

Hey guys today we’re going to be taking
a look at Mucuna Pruiens (Pure –ree- ns). I will include links to information I’ve
used in the course of this research as I’ve mentioned in all my reviews always consult
your health care professional before taking any product you see from sources that aren’t
certified, licensed or that have not been tested by the FDA and the medical science
community. Mucuna is a tropical legume known as velvet
bean or cowitch. It’s found in Africa, India and the Caribbean. The plant itself is infamous for the extreme
itchiness it produces on contact, however today we’re looking at its medicinal elements,
benefits and my personal experience using this herb. Traditionally, the seeds of Mucuna have been
used in Ayurvedic (Air- O- Vedic) Medicine, Ayurveic means “The Knowledge For Long Life”. It’s the world’s richest sources of L-Dopa
and has been used medicinally for thousands of years to promote sexual function, youthful
vigor, burn off body fat and increase lean muscle mass. Mucuna stimulates the Pituitary gland. The Pituitary gland helps control growth,
blood pressure, sexual function in both male and females, thyroid gland function, helps
in food metabolism, pain relief, osmolarity (Oz-moe-larity) regulation, which is water
balance by the kidneys, temperature regulation and pain relief. In Pharmacology the mucuna seeds high concentration
of Levodopa (Lee-Vo-dopa), the precursor of the neurotransmitter Dopamine has been studied
in Airovedic Indian medicine for the treatment of Parkinson’s disease. Along with its source of L-Dopa it also contains
Serotonin. My primary focus on Mucuna derived from the
fact that I was looking for a mood balance enhancer to go along with or enhance other
areas of Adaptogen’s that I’ve been trying. So what are the benefits of Mucuna Pruiens
and or what have I experienced from using the product. It does have a very mild to moderate mood
lifting affect. The sensation is similar to a sense of joy. It sparks a feeling of alertness, energy,
concentration and perhaps a mild euphoric sensation depending on your state of mind. Some may even liken the sensation to a mild
alcohol buzz in which you feel at ease, a soothing sense of calm or clarity, along with
a spry boost in confidence. I typically take a teaspoon full mixed with
Yogurt or Chocolate Syrup, stirred with milk, because the powder is so fine that it will
simply float on top of a liquid. You could take it with ice cream, stirred
with a smoothie, mixed with honey or jam, because you want to make sure that it doesn’t
stick to whatever container you’re going to consume it from. Mucuna can be a little pricey, so I take it
sparingly on those occasions where I’m looking to take a little bit of the edge off during
a stressful day or in preparation for an event or function where I want a lift in my demeanor. Granted, those are my particular experiences
and in no way I’m I suggesting that you may get the same benefit or that the product
could or should be used in any way to treat any medical conditions, for use in weight
loss, muscle conditioning, physiological or psychological treatment. There isn’t a lot of information concerning
side the effects of Mucuna, however a word of caution is outlined for those who suffer
from Glaucoma, people using MAO inhibitors, those who have a history of melanoma or suspicious
and undiagnosed skin lesions. Over all Mucuna Pruiens has been a safe, none
habit forming mood enhancer that I’ve been taking for several months with very positive
results. I hope you’ve enjoyed this review and if
you consider taking or have taken Mucuna I’d enjoy hearing your comments below. Thanks for watching.

  • Hi'ah Prophetic, I've added two links for you. I've not checked my local health food stores to see if they carry it as I get a good bit of my products online as I get better prices and the products are just as safe.

  • i found mixing it with cacao and guarana to be insanely good… altho i've read green tea is great gave me anxiety. it seems to be a great base for other things, preferably floured herbs. did you find any issue using it daily? i'm going to get some 5-htp to use every other day on my breaks.

  • I've recently started mixing it with Honey. I don't use Mucuna daily, as I understand it from others you use it in cycles. Three Weeks on Three Weeks off, however I use it just to take off an edge if I'm somewhat stressed. It can give you a little bit of a rush (caffeine/stimulant affect), which can feel alarming and perhaps trigger a little anxiety. It does amp up your circulation, I'd just reduce the portions you're taking and find a good medium dose.

  • one can develop an imbalance of serotonin to i use it every other day with no ill effects..never more than 3 days on, 3 days off. if i eat a banana about an hr after having it that helps too.. imo there's a lot of research that needs to happen with this little bean. have you tried different kinds? i have a mixture i made of: vanilla and coffee.., so far..

  • I've tried different brands and I prefer a particular brand over another, however the company is showing their Mucuna as Out of Stock.

  • i have just one place i order it from.. i tried to PM you but can't find it with the new layout.
you gotta mix it with green tea or cacao and the L-Dopa absorbs better across the blood-brain barrier. try green tea, equal amounts of loose tea to mucuna and you'll see what i mean…err, have you tried that? the contents of cacao lengthen's the effects, too. this herb is great for those tapering away from opiate abuse….

  • For price and quality I go with taoofherbs(.com). Their quality is as good as LongEvity, but Tao's prices are a lot better by quantity.

  • I recently took a macuna concentrate and feel extremely strange. i took less than the product instructed me to and am confised dizzy and anxious. i am getting hot flushes and cannot controll my thoughts. it feel as though my brain chemistry is really out of wack
im also finding it hard to breathe and my blood pressure is through the roof. has anybody had this before?

  • It may depend on your natural dopamine levels in how your body will react or just a typical introduction of the product. Taking to high of a dose can cause you to feel excitable as though you had consumed a lot of Caffeine. I tell people to start out with 1/4 of a teaspoon first. Also, on the packaging it should suggest to start out with a small dose first to see how you will react. In your case I'd drink plenty of water to help flush it out.

  • I just bought it in pill form yesterday. The label says 1 pill is one serving, 400 mg. But suggested use says take 6 to 8 before bed on an empty stomach. I took 3 before bed, was fine, no effects that I was aware of. Will continue as I'm interested in all it's benefits. Thanks for sharing your experience.

  • it works as a mood lifter and relaxes ones attitude…..a small amount…50 milligrams one feels the effect and works well with theanine..using it on larger dosage helps with exercise…that is i focus and seem to lift weights…..this may also be with d-aspartic acid i use with it….one of the very best supplements i have used….not sure of any side effects…

  • The following is a paragraph from
Cowhage (Mucuna pruriens) contains levodopa (L-dopa), which is used to treat Parkinson's disease. L-dopa is changed to the chemical dopamine in the brain. Symptoms of Parkinson's disease occur in patients due to low levels of dopamine in the brain. Unfortunately, most L-dopa is broken down in the body before it ever reaches the brain unless special chemicals are used with levodopa. These chemicals are not present in cowhage.

  • Mucuna is a "source of" L-dopa. We all process what we put in our bodies differently. It should also be noted from WebMD: Today, cowhage is still used for treating Parkinson's disease, as well as for treating anxiety, arthritis, parasitic infections, and a condition called hyperprolactinemia. In hyperprolactinemia, the blood levels of a hormone called prolactin are too high. The "special" chemicals they are referring to are called Binders.

  • Great video, I just purchased mucuna today an took it with ashwaganda,an lucuma.I feel uplift an a sense of hope. This herb seems very promising an has a nice synergy with other calming herbs.

  • I just purchased (50) Mucuna Pruriens seeds to grow in my garden.
I will start the seeds indoors around March, and then, transplant
them in my garden. Since Mucuna Pruiens is a tropical plant, I
will be growing them as a mass production annual plants, harvesting
the seeds at the end of the summer season.
NOTE: In the right growing conditions, the Mucuna Pruriens can grow
    4 inches in one day!

  • I don't agree with one thing you said – to me, the "high" is nothing like  that of alcohol. The effect of alcohol, i,e, drunkeness, is far less focused. I think a person can take mucuna and not have any negative effect on their ability to drive. Just MHO.

  • I've been taking 5mg selegiline (MAOI) daily. Adding 200mg mucuna pruriens gets me moderately high. excellent focus, positive, outgoing. Taken together with selegiline, this seems like it could definitely be addictive. Something to do only in moderation, imho.. Or perhaps cycled with other stimulants to avoid tolerance.

  • i think i did it wrong, tried 1000mg first day, 7 hours later was serious vomiting, everything i eat or drink comes back up and bad diarrhoea, just on water and toast now, it may have been dodgy product, it was from thailand

  • Obviously pull form is the easiest way to take these herbs, but I have powder because my supplier doesn't sell it in capsules. Anyway, this stuff doesn't taste well so I'm wondering how to take it. I notice the video advised how to take mucuna, but my question is how can I ( or should I) take mucuna and Ashwagandha together because it tastes horrible?! I also have Kratom. How is everyone combining and using these things? What/when to take for every and alertness, and when for sleep? Please advise I'm new to al of this

  • I put 2-3 raw beans in a glass of lukewarm milk and i blend it in a blender and i drink it everynight after dinner. Ofcourse I peel off the black skin first. IS there any problem with eating raw velvet beans ???

  • I am Pam, 52 years. I take Gabapantin for my whole body pain. severe legs pain from last 12 years. so I have tried every thing. I have tried all kinds of antidrepressant. nothing works on my legs. now I am trying herbs. Mucuna, Ashwagandha and some other. I want to know that can I take Gabapantin and Duloxitine with these herbs. I don't know and my doctors they don't know what is Mucuna and Ashwagandha and other herbs like passion flowers/hopes/Valerian. Dr. never like when I ask this kind of question. please let me know.

  • I started taking MP on a friends suggestion, I took a 1000mg cap at 8am and I forgot about it, then I noticed my mood was elevated and by the 3rd day I realized it had to be the MP. It has me doing things like cleaning the house, talking more, brighter, sharper mind….and it has legs it will last for 2 days, so I only take one every other day. It's been a month now and still working 🙂

  • I tried Gaba first, its an amazing Neurotransmitter, my question is :
Can i use this two products together ? GABA AND MUCUNA.

  • I'm about ready try Mucuna RIGHT NOW
Read a lot of good information, especially on this site which gives me a lot of hope to achieve better health and assist me to have a good life.
I'm 70 and been on PD drugs for 6 years can't complain too much but they are starting to wear off.
I never knew if the side effects were the PD or the drugs.
    I will stay in touch.

  • Tobacco products and alcohol is legal in most countries, but for example this stuff is illegal to sell within Canada. You can import it but even then there is a personal limit. Many government regs make no sense at all.

  • would like to know which mucuna is better: black or gray, because I am in doubt and want to buy in natura, because I roast and drink as coffee.

  • Noticed a dramatic improvement in my well-being from this, as well as saint johns wort. I'll never understand why this stuff will never be as popular is horrible medication. This stuff works better and without sideeffects

  • I think its effects are useful in meditation, elevating emotions, energy, pleasure, thinking momentum, finally I used this.

  • quarter teaspoon mucuna, quarter teaspoon matcha green tea, 1 teaspoon raw honey: shake vigorously, drink it up and thank me later

  • Another channel had said it should have an dark earthy color. Then later I read a message board where several people claimed to have success with a certain brand. I ordered it ( thinking a msg board no one would profit by recommendation). It's an of white color. I've only taken it once and may have gotten a mild headache but that's all. The headache could easily be from something else.
Also it wasn't expensive. (so bad quality?)
Does anyone know if the color is relevant?
If anyone knows a good brand please share. Being approved by our wonderful government agencies means nothing to me.
They don't approve my Kratom which has literally saved my life in more ways than one.
ps..if anyone actually responds YT doesnt always tell me…😕

  • I have been taking it for a few days now , I am taking a teaspoon a day and from what i have been reading i do not need this much. I started small the first day and i started late night.. so i didnt sleep. I have noticed that i am more energenic and i feel a tingling in my junk like i did when i was a kid climbing a rope. My thinking is more rational as well.

  • I've been taking mucuna in the morning for 3 weeks now.
I'm far more upbeat and positive with much less anxiety. I feel much more upbeat and happy… even going through a breakup !
It's the herb I've been looking for for years.
    Life changing.

  • My powder just arrived a few days ago, it's pure white and makes me nervous to take it. I bought off of Ebay from a seller with over a hundred reviews. Anyone have any idea why it would be pure white like cornstarch?

  • You cant yield those benefits with a powder lol and certainly not when you're combining it with foods that inflame the body. If the body is inflamed by consuming dairy or worse yet ice cream. what good are the mucuna "benefits"? lmao. Its not just mucuna, its everything you have to take into account. Its supposed to be an organized system,

  • I'm going to try this to stop smoking, along with B Complex. I'm not going cold turkey, but stepping down less and less, or I will go nuts and get sick.

  • I found a few 99% extracts online (all the rest are 10-25%). Anyone try both? A low % and a 99%? I remember 99% in old work out supplements and they were awesome but that went away.
