Terpenes. Let’s talk about ’em. One of the best things about regulating cannabis, in my opinion, is being able to choose a strain that’s specific to your needs based on the terpenes and cannabinoids that are present. Terpenes are compounds that are found in the essential oils of plants and are what give plants their smell and flavor. When it comes to cannabis, terpenes actually dictate the type of effects that a certain strain will have. These terpenes bind to our endocannabinoid receptors, alongside cannabinoids like THC and CBD, and affect their chemical output. This means that if you’re experiencing things like anxiety, you might choose a strain with terpenes like limonene or linalool, but if you’re feeling wired and need to sleep you might choose a strain with some myrcene in it. The coolest part about terpenes is that they aren’t unique to cannabis. Monq is a company that produces personal aromatherapy diffusers that promote mood change through essential oils. They work just like any other vaporizer or ecig you might have seen. It warms the essential oil’s enough to release its beneficial compounds without creating a harmful combustion, which produces a lighter cleaner and smoother experience than smoking an herbal blend. Monq has seven different essential oil blends, but I just so happen to have the happy blend, which is a mixture of vanilla, thyme, and fennel. It has a sweet earthy and refreshing taste that I really enjoy. Thyme just so happens to have the terpene mercene in it, which is a compound also frequently found in cannabis. This terpene has antioxidant, anti-carcinogenic effects. It can help with depression, inflammation, sleeplessness, and relaxation. I found that I really enjoy using this pen in conjunction with a CBD vaporizer. These are about half the price of your average CBD vaporizer pen running at twenty dollars. And so I’ll take one hit off of my CBD pen, and then puff on this a little bit to enhance the effects and give me an extra boost. I’m Kristen Williams founder of Hempsley.
